1.50 Being wrong

Andrew paid the cab driver and walked into the house. All lights were off accept upstairs, Andrew breathed a sigh of relief thinking that Kirsten still didn’t know until he walked into their bedroom.

“You idiot…how could you? You could have been hurt, worse than that arrested.  Wouldn’t that look good for our wedding day; my new husband in a jumpsuit.”
“Kirsten please I know you are mad but please hear me out.”

“You have two minutes before you are on the couch.” Andrew knew when Kirsten was like this it was best to stay where he was.

“Matt rang Jake and he asked for my help. A guy tried to bribe Kay so Matt suggested she stay with Hazel in their room. Matt slept in Kay’s room because he knew the scumbag was going to come back. We all heard him when he came in he was hoping to sleep with her by agreement or force to get what he wanted. So yes we roughed him up a bit.”

Kirsten softened her face and walked over to hold Andrew. “I love you, that is so sweet but why is Jake in a mood?”
“Jake had a fight with Kay…”
“Kay should be flattered that he protected her.”
“Babe, she was at first until he told her to pack her bags and come home plus he said he’d take care of her.” Kirsten was in shock and yelled, “He did what?”
“I tried talking to him but he thinks he should leave Kay…”
“Leave Kay, has my brother lost his mind.”

Kirsten went to open the door when Andrew stopped her, “Please babe let Jake think about this first. He hasn’t broken thing off, I think he said it in anger.”
“Fine!”
“Let’s go downstairs and tell me about your day.”

Kirsten was making the coffee when Andrew wrapped his arms around her, kissing her neck. “And, you aren’t making it easy to tell you about my day.”
“Good, now tell me more.”
Kirsten was screaming in her head, ‘Stop torturing me and just make love to me.’ When she opened her mouth she replied, “Mum took me to loads of bridal shops and she is doing my head in.”

Andrew stopped and turned Kirsten to face him, “Did you find your dress?” Kirsten sighed, “No and at this rate I don’t think I will.” Andrew smiled at her and said, “You will find the right dress. Do you know what the date is?” Kirsten looked puzzled and asked, “Is it a special date?”
“A year to the day this will be our wedding day and most importantly our wedding night.”
Kirsten laughed, “The whole day is important.”
“True but I’m looking forward to the night.” Andrew kissed Kirsten as she replied, “I can’t wait.”

Jake had work but he kept taking his phone out to see if he had any missed calls but there were none. Talking out loud he said, “Fine be like that, I was giving you a good offer…see you can’t miss me that much.”

Jake jumped when he heard his sister say, “She misses you plenty you ass. Ring her and say sorry for demanding that she comes home.”
“Sis you don’t get it.”
“I do get it. Andrew told me everything and up until you demanded Kay come home was heroic but then you became an idiot. She has wanted to be a doctor for a long time and you want her to give it up because of one guy?”

“I’m trying to be a good boyfriend.”
“Then support her choice in career and tell her you love her. I mean do you want her to be Kay or a bored unhappy girlfriend?”
“I want my Kay.” Kirsten came really close to her brother and said, “Then simmer down, think and phone her, you prat.” Jake couldn’t say anything back and he hated when Kirsten did this to him.

When Jake was at work all he could think of was Kay and crunch came when he almost had an accident fixing the alarm bell so sat there and texted her. ‘Baby I’m sorry for asking you to quit. I just get so worried when we are apart. Love Jake xxx’
The rest of the day went easier for Jake once he had sent the texted but he still had a feeling that she was still upset with him as he hadn’t had a response yet and when he got home he checked again and still nothing.

He lay on Kay’s bed hoping that the weekend he had just shared with her wasn’t his last after his behaviour. Jake was dozing off when his phone rang, he quickly answered it without looking at the ID and Kay asked, “Jake I only just got you texted, thank you. I miss you.”
“I love you, Kay.”
“Jake where are you?”
“Strange question, I’m at home in your bedroom as it’s the only way I feel close to you, why?”
“I’m in your room.”

Jake shot up and asked, “Baby, you are telling the truth, right?”

The door opened to her room and Jake smiled as Kay replied, “I was until now.”

1.49 Come home

Matt lay on Kay’s bed waiting when he heard the door open, “Now that we are alone my darling Kay, let’s discuss you getting up graded.” The light quickly came on and the guy saw he was facing Matt, “Where is Kay?”
“She couldn’t make it but I’m taking her place.”

The guy started to back away and bumped into someone and when he turned around he saw Jake standing there, “Tried to sleep with my girl, you piece of shit.”

He backed away and bumped into Andrew, “Hi, Kay is dating my best mate so this is not going to be your night.”

Hazel went to the dean’s office with Kay. She ushered Kay to take a seat, “How can I help you Kay?”
“I’ll come straight to the point; can I study at university but live at home?” The dean thought for a moment, “Is there a reason why?”
“This guy tried to bribe me and I miss my…family and friends.”
“Don’t you mean your boyfriend?” Kay looked at the floor and mumbled, “Yes I miss him. However the bribery part is true.”

“The university knows of the student you are talking of and you aren’t the first girl he has tried this with. However you are a good student and have the potential of being a great doctor. Have you decided your field yet?”
“No not yet.”
“Kay you could travel back and forth but how far away do you live?”
“I live a couple hours’ drive a way.”

The dean thought for a moment and then replied, “Kay, what I can do for you and this is an acceptation but your boyfriend can stay every weekend or you can go home every weekend but you have to give 110%, agreed?” Kay was so happy and agreed on the spot to the terms. When the girls got back they saw a police car pulling away from the dormitory.

Once inside both Hazel and Kay saw Andrew, Jake and Matt sitting together laughing. They both looked at each other in shock and disbelief. They both knew something was wrong and when they saw their faces that spoke volumes.

Kay had mixed feelings seeing Jake sat there. Part of her was pleased and she wanted nothing more than to throw her arms around him and plant thousands of kisses on him but the other side of her was angry that he came all the way here to get into a fight and now he had a cut lip. Kay asked firmly, “Guys, what’s with the police car?”

Jake got up to put his arms around Kay but she wasn’t going to be nice not just yet until she knew what was going on, “Jake sit back down, now what is going on?” He tried to offer an explanation, “Well you see…” Then Hazel butted in, “It’s too do with the student who was in Kay’s room right?”

They all looked at the floor and Hazel added, “Matt you phoned the boys to help you, am I right?” Matt smiled as he didn’t see that he had done anything wrong and firmly said, “He was trying it on with my sister…”
Hazel was angry,” But she’s not your sister.”

Matt got up and yelled, “As far as I’m concerned Kay is.” Kay looked at Hazel and added, “Matt is family to me I really hope you can understand that, Hazel?” Hazel up until now had under estimated how important the relationship was to both of them and turn back to Matt and replied, “I’m sorry your right but look at your faces.”

Jake now put his arms around Kay ignoring her angry face and replied, “So we kicked his ass and I’d do it again. The bonus was the police took him away to charge him.”

He turned to Kay and softly said, “Baby, go and pack your things as you are coming home. I have a good job and I’ll look after you.”

Kay pushed Jake away and said firmly, “What!”
“You can’t stay here. If Matt hadn’t called I never would have known and these guys’ throwing themselves at you is not on.”
“But if I was a still a singer, you’d be ok with that?”
“At least you’d be home.” The room became silent as everyone staring at Jake and Kay.
“Jake, just leave before we say anything more. I’ll see you on the weekend.”
“Maybe I won’t be here,” as Jake slammed the door making Kay jump and she ran upstairs crying.

Andrew went outside to see Jake, “You handled it well.” Jake couldn’t turned around, “Maybe Kay isn’t the woman for me.”

Andrew forced Jake to look at him and firmly said, “Bullshit, she is the perfect woman for you. First argument and you want to run? Do you have any idea how to be in a real relationship? It takes a lot of commitment. When I get home I’ll get yelled at for helping you and your sister will be screaming at me, tell you what I’ll leave her.”
Jake firmly said, “Don’t you dare leave my sister.”
“I’d never leave her the point is Jake this is your first argument so deal with it move on with her because you’ll never get a woman like her again that puts up with your shit.”

“Fuck you And.” Jake stormed off got into his car and sped off. Andrew walked in and said, “He is pissed off, I’d better ring a cab to get me home.”

Matt had to ask, “Isn’t that going to cost a bit?”
“Yep and Kirsten will kill me for both the cost of the cab and coming here.”

1.48 Not coping

Jake slammed the car door when he arrived home but wasn’t in the mood to be sociable so he just made his way to the basement.

In the morning Kirsten was making breakfast when she felt Andrew kiss her neck as he put his arms around her, “Love you too Andrew.,” as she carried on making the breakfast. “And, can you get Jakey for breakfast?”
“Babe, he might want to be on his own.”
“I understand but he is missing Kay and needs company.”
“I’ll try but don’t yell at me if he won’t come up.”

Andrew went to Jake’s bedroom but there was no sign of him. He knocked the bathroom door but again no sign.

Andrew suddenly had a thought to look in Kay’s room and when he opened the door Jake was lying over her bed still fully clothed.
When Andrew shook him, Jake wouldn’t move and then he shouted, “Jake, get the hell up you lazy git.” The response he got was harsh, “Fuck off and leave me alone.”

Andrew pulled Jake up so they were sitting side by side, “Did you and Kay have a good weekend?”
“We did thanks. I just wish she would come home. I can look after both of us.” Andrew was shocked and replied, “Jake did you hear yourself. Kay doesn’t strike me as the stay at home type and besides you’d still have to work.”
“True but she’d always be at home waiting in something nice…” Andrew stopped him, “I love you mate because you are my best friend but as much as I agree with you about the something nice let’s face it, it is only a fantasy and in the real world they stay at home if it’s their choice not forced and they work because they want to but we do benefit.”

Jake looked at Andrew and quietly replied, “I know you are right but I miss her so much.”
“You will see her next weekend but I have to be honest I understand because spending time away from Kirsten would be hell for me.”
“How can you stand being around my sister so much?”
“Hay she is your sister but my fiancée. I’ve been sent by your sister to make you come upstairs and eat.”
“I don’t have a choice do I?”
“Not unless you want her on your back.”

Jake remained quiet throughout breakfast until Kirsten broke the ice, “How was the weekend?”
Jake smiled slightly, “Great I just wish I was still there.” Kirsten kept up with the questions, “How did Matt and Hazel settle in?”
“They had one major argument, Kay said reading between the lines Hazel tried to get pregnant on purpose.”
“What!”
Andrew replied, “How’s Matt?”
“I have to hand it to Matt he took it better than I would have but they are sorting things out but he pulled out of the business deal with Estevan.”
Kirsten was still in shock, “Is he nuts? That would have been a good start. Wait till I have words with Hazel.”

Matt and Hazel had just got back from the doctor’s. Matt needed to have the pill injection explained to him and how it worked and the only part he understood was that it started to work straight away. He pushed her onto the bed and calmly said, “So I can enter you right now and you won’t get pregnant?”
“I really want you right now but the doctor did say it’s not 100% effective but you wearing a condom as well will help us to not get pregnant.”

“Then you’d better get naked and I’ll get the condom.” Matt got up to get one from the draw when they both heard a scream. Matt ran from the room with Hazel behind him.

He opened the door to Kay’s room to find Kay curled up on her bed and a student standing by the bed. “Kay, are you ok?” She looked over to Matt and Hazel, “He tried to kiss me.”

Matt grabbed him and firmly said, “Kay has a boyfriend so back off.”
“We were having a discussion that is all.” Hazel was by Kay when she yelled, “Lair, you were trying to blackmail me. He told me that if I kissed him and agreed to sleep with him then he would convince the dean to give me a good grade.”

Matt instantly punched the guy and when he got up he brushed himself off and said calmly, “You will regret doing that and you’ll be thrown out of university because my parents are very high up in the community.”

Matt got close to him and with venom in his voice said, “I doubt that.” The guy saw that Matt meant what he said and walked off. Matt turned to Kay and asked, “Are you ok?”

Kay quickly hugged him and said, “I am now thanks to you. They won’t seriously kick you out will they?”
“No they won’t.”

Matt took Hazel outside and closed the door, “Can you take Kay to our room tonight and I’ll sleep in Kay’s room because I have a feeling he will try something again.” Hazel kissed him, “Is this a good idea, I mean I don’t want you in trouble?”
“I’ll be fine but I have to make a phone call so just please just look after Kay.” Hazel agreed and took her to their room.

Matt was straight on the phone, “Kay’s had a bit of trouble. I think the guy that was bothering her will be back tonight, can you help?”

“We will be there soon?”

1.47 Missing you already

In the morning after they all went bowling Jake was holding Kay, “I can’t believe in a few hours you have to leave.”

“Me either, please Kay come home?”
“I’d love too but we both know that I have to study. This is my second year but as I told you I’ll be home in a few weeks. You will have my attention for a whole 2 weeks.”
“And that day I’ll pick you up,” as he slowly kissed Kay.

Hazel asked Matt, “Have I caused trouble with Estevan?”
Matt shook his head and then said, “He’s still paying for us at university but there will be no business when we graduate.”

Hazel got up and started to walk away but Matt pulled her into his chest and said, “Don’t feel guilty Haz. You were finally honest with me and when I told Uncle Estevan he was fine with it. He understood we may want to live in Lucky Palms and running a business from a different town is not the best solution. We can build a great life together without any help.”
Hazel looked at the floor, “I’m sorry I tried to control us.”

Matt kissed her forehead but didn’t say anything then Hazel asked, “I missed you sleeping next to me.”
“Haz, we agreed no babies yet so until you are back on the pill then no sex is the best option.”
“I won’t try anything…”
“But I will. When are you getting the pill?”
“I’m seeing the doctor tomorrow but I’m not going on the pill.”

Matt looked at her as she quickly added, “I’m having the pill injection and it lasts for 3 months. It is the better option if I don’t want to take the tablets but may want a baby in a few years.”
“I don’t understand.”
“If we want a baby in few years then every 3 months I will have to take a break for a month so I can have a period…”

Matt looked shocked as Hazel continued to explain. “Yes no periods until I take a break from the injection. But if I take the break every now and then when we do want a baby I won’t be infertile.”
Matt could only focus on the one word, “A month!”
“Matt, you can use a condom for a month it won’t kill you.”

Jake was packing the last of his things when he saw Kay’s face he looked her in the eye and sweetly said, “A week is far too long. I doubt I’ll sleep tonight without you near me.” Kay close to tears quietly said, “Why does this have to be so hard? This is why I didn’t want to start seeing you because of all these complications but at the same time I’m glad we are together. I just wished I was qualified so I could do my shift then come home to you.”

Jake knelt beside her, “I know what you mean, I feel the same way. When you come home Dad and Mum want to meet you, they want to take us out. Would you be ok with that?”
“Your Dad seems to be trying and after the things you said I guess it’s only fair to get to know him.”
Jake kissed her and grabbed his bag.

They walked to his car in silence dreading this moment. Jake put his bag inside the car and turned back to Kay. He hated seeing her so upset but they both knew he had to leave, “Hay cheer up next week we’ll have been together a month.”
“I know but you had plans for us this weekend and then with Matt and Hazel…” Jake stopped her, “I know but I did get to do some of the things planned.” Kay smiled back at Jake, “I guess but…”
“No butt’s Kay, I loved this weekend with you now kiss me before I leave.”

She kissed him passionately while moving her hand down his chest towards his trousers. The slightest touch she felt him rise and when she finished the kiss she pulled her hand away.
Jake savoured the kiss on his lips and said, “Now that was an unfair move.”
She got real close to his lips again and replied, “Well I’ll kiss it better when I see you next weekend.”

Jake grinned as he opened the car door took one last look at Kay. He couldn't help but run back to her giving Kay another kiss. Then Jake opened the door of the car and shouted, “I love you.”
“I love you too.”

She watched Jake driving into the distance and heard Matt say from behind her, “He’ll be back next week.”

Kay turned to Matt and started to cry, “I can’t let you cry like this…”
“Sorry, look your top is wet.”
Matt smiled and replied, “It will dry. There is a competition in the main hall tonight and you are going.”
“Matt I have studying to do.”
“And an hour won’t kill you either. Besides you need cheering up.”
